Happy New Year – Reflections and Intentions

Hey beautiful people, I hope you’re all doing well and have had a great start to this new, hopefully better, year.

So, here we are, another January, another trip around the sun.

2020

After arguably the most memorable year of my (and possibly all of our) lives, I’d like to take this time to reflect on this past year and set some intentions for this new year with you all.

For me personally, this year has been full to the brim with the lowest lows and the highest highs.

When the pandemic hit Malta in March, it hit me really hard, all my plans for the rest of the year fell to pieces, work took a nose dive for both myself and my (now) husband, I started having really bad anxiety, panic attacks and we had to cancel our wedding and honeymoon and lost a lot of money in the process. Needless to say, 2020 wasn’t going too well for me (or anyone)…

However, 2020 was also the year I married my best friend, it’s the year I FINALLY started my HNNFood business and it’s also the year I became pregnant with my first child.

I share this here because at the time back in March/April, when I was having panic attacks and suffering from acid reflux due to stress and feeling miserable for the most part, I couldn’t even fathom finishing off the year on a high note.

Mind you, getting married two days out of quarantine, in a tiny covid-regulated ceremony and being pregnant in a pandemic was not exactly what I had in mind however, while the circumstances leave a lot to be desired, they take away none of the joy. It’s certainly not easy, not what any of us expected, not what I or anyone wanted but finding gratitude, peace and joy in the highs and accepting the lows is what has helped me move forward and keep going this year.

This year has thought me to appreciate the little things, celebrate the little wins, find joy and appreciation in the everyday and the mundane, take more risks, appreciate family and above all else, take absolutely NOTHING for granted.

2021

My intentions for this new year is to hold onto what I’ve learnt; to take it day by day, find calm it the chaos, joy in the unexpected and find peace in whatever comes my way.

At the start of every month, I try to take some time to map out my goals and get organized. This month is not different – setting huge goals for an entire year feels overwhelming and unattainable so I tackle one month at a time then use a weekly planner to map out what each week will look like.

Some of my goals for the first month of the year.

Professionally:

I’m working on a new and improved menu for HNNFood 😋

Being more consistent with blog content – new blog post every Saturday 🎉

Physically:

Yoga every day – the only thing that is helping with pregnancy back pain 🙏🏻

Back to healthier eating after the holidays – I’ve enjoyed every morsel of decedent food and feel no guilt for indulging, however I know I feel and function better when I eat better 💪🏻

Personally:

Meditate 🧘‍♂️ trying to work this into my daily routine – It helps with anxiety

Worry less – worry was the theme for my 2020; I will try to not take that habit into 2021.

Care less about what others may think 💭

What are some of the goals you’ve set for yourself this year / month?

I hope you’ve found this interesting or even inspiring to move into a new year with a good mindset, eager to start afresh.

Remember – it doesn’t have to be a new year to set new goals. This is one of the reasons why I like doing this monthly. You can make a fresh start whenever you decide to do so. Have the courage to change what is not working for you whenever you want to!
