Happy Saturday beautiful people – or as I like to call it, Happy New-Blog-Post-Day!
I shared the method for making Vanilla Essence easily at home a while back on my fb page, but every single time I show my Vanilla on FB and Instagram Stories I get loads of questions about it and how to make it. So, today I thought I’d share all the details here; this way you guys to look it up easily on the blog and it won’t get lost in a post over time.
First of all, let me start by saying that once you make this and try it out, you’ll NEVER buy vanilla essence EVER AGAIN. It’s incredibly easy to make and tastes absolutely phenomenal – you will certainly be able to taste the difference in your baked goods.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it:
100ml (40 proof min) vodka
4 Vanilla pods
Small glass bottle
Sharp knife
Funnel

Start by slicing your vanilla pods in half lengthwise and also in height – cutting them in half lengthwise ensures we release the vanilla bean which is really important; that’s where all the beautiful vanilla flavor comes from! We also have to cut the height to fit into the small bottle and be totally submerged in the vodka.

These tiny black flecks are the most important part of the vanilla pod – try to save every single one to place in your glass (sterilized) bottle.
Now, add your vanilla pods, with as many seeds as possible, into your small glass bottle. Grab your funnel and pour vodka over the vanilla pods. Seal and shake well.

The half-empty bottle contains vanilla essence that I’ve had and used for a while – it’s had time to infuse and become really rich and flavorful. The other one is the new vanilla essence just after putting it together.
All that is left now is to let it sit for 3-4 weeks until vanilla is infused into the liquid.

This is what it will look like when it’s half way there after about two week.
The longer you leave it, the stronger and more flavorful it becomes.
I have one that I made in 2019 – it has beautiful, rich, vanilla flavor. I’ve topped it up with a bit more vodka and vanilla pods over the years but otherwise all you need to do is wait for it to infuse. The longer the better.

That’s it from me for today – I’ll be back with a new blog post Every Single Saturday 🙂
