Today’s superfood is definitely my fave – Raw Cacao Nibs

Bursting with delicious chocolatey flavor and loaded with nutrients, this superfood is definitely worthy of its name.
What are cacao nibs?
Cacao nibs are simply crumbled bits of dried cacao beans. Cacao beans, which grow on cacao trees, are the raw, unprocessed ingredient that is used to make chocolate.
I like to think of them as nature’s chocolate chips. They are rich, chocolatey and a bit bitter but if you like dark chocolate, then you’ll love cacao nibs. They’re a much healthier way of adding a chocolate flavor to your food and contain many important nutrients and plant power compounds that benefit our health in many ways.
Benefits of cacao nibs
Cacao nibs are an incredibly healthy, low fat and low sugar alternative to chocolate.
They are loaded with nutrients such as magnesium, manganese, iron, phosphorus, fibre and protein.
Cacao is packed with antioxidants and contains a high flavonoid content which both make a significant contribution to dietary intake that combats oxidative stress within the body. Oxidative stress leads to increased levels of inflammation which in turn leads to illness.
Cacao nibs contain:
Anti-inflammatory properties
May help improve heart health and benefit blood sugar control
Help keep the immune system healthy
Are protective against many forms of cancer.
How to use them
Simply add a tablespoon of cacao nibs to a thick smoothie, add them to a yoghurt with mixed fruit and nuts, add them to your morning granola or cereal or bake using cacao nibs and not only will you add a rich chocolate flavor, you’ll also be getting an extra boost to your health – what’s not to love?
