Superfood Spotlight: HEMP Protein

Hey beautiful people, I hope you’re all doing well.

Welcome to Volume 2 of our new Superfood Spotlight series.

You all seemed to love vol 1 Superfood Spotlight: Chlorella – and all the posts I share on my stories daily – so I’ve decided to make it a weekly series!

This week, I’m going to be sharing some insight about a superfood that I use regularly and love – Hemp Protein.

If you’ve been here for a while you know that the ONLY protein powders I have ever recommended are simple vegan protein powders that do not contain any additives. Whey protein powders, which do tend to be higher in terms of protein content, also tend to be inflammatory and many contain unnecessary and even harmful ingredients and fillers that the body simply doesn’t need.

So, whenever I’m asked which protein powder I would recommend, I always say that I personally would opt for a single ingredient vegan protein and hemp is my favorite; Here’s why.

It’s easy to digest

Hemp protein powder is a natural protein source that contains no allergens or additives making it easy to digest.

It’s a complete protein

Unlike most other plant based protein sources, hemp contains all the essential amino acids that are needed by the human body. This means that is it a high quality protein source making it an ideal single ingredient protein powder.

It contains unsaturated fats

Unsaturated fats are healthy fats that the body needs for many essential processes and to balance out harmful cholesterol within the body.

It has a mild taste

Many superfood powders have a very strong, distinct flavor. Hemp is earthy, nutty and mild. If you don’t enjoy the taste, it’s very easily masked in smoothies, baked goods or mixed in as an ingredient in protein bars and balls. It’s not overpowering at all.

It’s loaded with important minerals and antioxidants

A commonality in many superfoods is their nutrient dense profiles, which is precisely why they are dubbed superfoods in the first place. Hemp is certainly no different; it’s loaded with good-for-you ingredients!

It contains a lot of fibre

Another important component in plant based foods is fibre. It’s so important for gut health and in turn overall health. Hemp contains a significant amount.

I’m also happy to report that I’ve been sticking to my ‘smoothie for breakfast’ kick which is both a real time-saver and also a great way to load up with some really healthy ingredients first thing. This week, like many other weeks, each of my smoothies contained hemp protein. Here’s what I made this week:
