Vegan 🌱 Week #2

Hello there beautiful people – I HOPE you’re all doing well, especially now during this trying time.

I’ve been all over the place these past few days – worried about everything and everyone; postponing our wedding, cancelling our honeymoon, stopping work indefinitely – this week has felt like a bad dream.

I wasn’t going to write this post – I mean at this point I doubt anyone cares about a vegan diet. Then I thought, this is THE TIME to actually think about these things and have the time to make the amendments and improvements we’ve perhaps been deliberating for a long time but never got round to doing because of lack of time.

With all that’s been going on, I’ve managed to keep my diet both vegan and consistent! I can hardly believe it myself to be totally honest – I just realised that I’ve been feeling a lot better eating this way and want to do anything I can to keep myself physically healthy – now more than ever..

In my Vegan Week #1 blog post, linked here: https://holisticnutritionninja.com/2020/03/04/vegan-%f0%9f%8c%b1-week-1/ , I split up my experience into day – meaning I listed difficulties and triumphs on a daily basis. This time, I didn’t do that. I forgot completely if I’m being totally honest.

Given the situation, we didn’t go out much this week so eating out was not an issue. I did have a lot of food pre-cooked, like rice, brown pasta, stir fry veg, hummus and so on. So many of my meals consisted of these foods. I’m also very into potatoes at the moment – which as I’m typing this seems quite strange; but still very true 🙂

HOW I’VE BEEN FEELING ON A VEGAN DIET:

Energy levels are actually great – I in no way feel deprived or that getting sufficient protein is a problem. I do ensure to add different types of high protein foods together to make sure I get a full protein profile

Most vegan protein sources are not complete; meaning they don’t contain all the necessary amino acids. However, mixing different types of high protein foods, such as nuts and seeds with beans and lentils, ensures getting all the amino acids required.

Sleep is better; less fractured and deeper sleep.

I have been missing some comfort foods, namely eggs (my all time fave food) but overall not feeling deprived.

My skin is actually much clearer too which is a wonderful surprise! I haven’t changed anything in my skincare routine.

I’ve been experimenting more with different meals and using different flavours and condiments – some of which turned out great! I’ll be sharing many of them soon 🙂

Would you even consider going vegan, even if just part-time? Or changing your eating habits to reduce animal food intake?

I’m honestly really interested in your feedback! Let me know in the comments or over on my social media pages 🙂
