Hello there beautiful people, I hope you’re all doing well!
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙂
I hope you’ve had a good start to the year so far; I’ve been trying to come up with new ideas for blog posts and recipes and so on for the month of January, so I asked you guys what you’d like to see over on my stories on IG and FB (both @holisticnutritionninja). The most common answer, by a mile, was meal prep ideas and getting back into routine.
This is TOTALLY understandable this time of year. I’m all for eating right and working out and drinking water and so on, however, I’ll be the first to put my hand up and happily admit that I worry very little about this during the holidays – I focus on enjoying time spent with family and friends, often around a table loaded with goodies. For the past two weeks, we’ve had countless dinners, lunches, get together’s and parties and I enjoyed every single one of them. I do always try to practice moderation and balance though. Some days that means a light lunch before a party later that day and other days, balance to me can mean a drink in one hand and a piece of chocolate in the other! The last bit may (or may not) be a joke but I’m sure many can relate.
Until I start posting new recipes here and on my IG and FB pages, have a look at my older posts related to meal prep and healthy eating ideas:

Before I leave you, I’d just like to point out that December tends to be very busy socially for most of us and as a result many make resolutions to lose weight and get fit. The truth is that January is the WORST month of the year when it comes to diet and self-esteem. It’s also the BEST time for companies to make us feel worse about ourselves only to try and sell us stuff you don’t need to obtain an impossibly lean body. The worst part is that because we’re all probably not feeling our best and possibly feeling bloated and yukky, we’re so much more vulnerable and likely to ‘buy now’. I’m here to tell you:
YOU DON’T NEED A DETOX – that’s what your liver and kidneys are for
NEW YEAR, NEW YOU? – this you is just fine; change is fine too but just keep in mind you’re perfectly fine just the way you are!
BEATING THE BLOAT – just make sure you drink your water, stay away from super salty food and give it some time
FORGET ABOUT ALL OF THAT – BE GRATEFUL FOR THE TIME SPENT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS – these problems, although super common, are very privileged ones. So many people around the world go to bed hungry and alone every single night. Complaining about too many events and too much food is ridiculous when you think about it. I’m the first to admit that I’m guilty of this too. I’m just trying to put things into perspective.
Gaining a bit of weight over the holidays is nothing to beat yourself up about; it’s certainly not something to hate yourself for. If you want to make a change, now is as good a time as any 🙂 but please be sure to make positive changes with a positive mindset. Do not force yourself to change because you feel as though you have to. Also, PLEASE DO NOT START A SUPER STRICT DIET; that won’t work and you will do more harm than good. January is already dark, cold and gloomy, don’t make it worse for yourself. Make small changes slowly, that’s the only thing that will work long-term 🙂
