Summer Smoothies

Good morning lovely people ♥️

I hope you’re all well!

Today, I thought I’d share my top go-to smoothie recipes that I make over and over again during these hot summer months.

I have a few that make great breakfast options, a few that make nice refreshing snacks and some that are just a way of staying hydrated whilst enjoying some nice fruity flavors.

Blender breakfasts – as I like to call them – are ideal for those of us who don’t like to fuss with too many things in the morning. I also like to have one of these re-fueling smoothies post workout (especially when my workout is first thing in the morning and I don’t have time to have breakfast beforehand).

1. Peanut butter banana smoothie

This is one of my current obsessions – it’s so yummy! It really tastes like a delicious decadent, creamy milk shake. So good

Ingredients:

1/2 frozen banana 🍌

1 HEAPED tablespoon peanut butter

1/4 cup oats

1/4 cup milk

Splash of water

Notes: ANY nut butter works really well here. I even at times opt for a nut butter powder (which reduces the amount of fat – which although healthy, can still be excessive – this depends on overall diet not just one meal of course).

Here, use any milk you like. Also, you could opt not to add the splash of water and make this into a thick smoothie bowl and add delicious toppings like cacao nibs, crushed nuts, fresh fruit; whatever you fancy.

The measurements here are what I find to be ideal for me – if your portion of oats if often larger than 1/4 cup, then go ahead and add more. Add the same amount of milk as you do oats to make sure it actually blends up nicely.

2. Chocolate-coffee smoothie bowl

Need I say more? Two of my favorite things…this is so good I would happily eat it for dessert! So yum!

Ingredients:

1/4 frozen avocado

1/2 frozen banana

1/4 cup vanilla almond milk

1 shot espresso

1 tablespoon hemp protein powder

1 teaspoon choc peanut butter powder

1-2 teaspoons raw cacao

Blend all the above ingredients in a blender and transfer into a pretty bowl. Eat as is or add some yummy toppings to make it even better.

This also makes a really nice breakfast or snack. It’s lower in carbs and higher in both fat and protein – especially if you opt to use the protein powder as I did here.

3. Berry Slushy

This one is a new one which I’m loving – it tastes like a delicious berry slushy – only creamier and so much better!

Ingredients:

Large handful frozen raspberries

1/4 cup vanilla almond

1 tablespoon natural Greek yoghurt

1 tablespoon protein powder

1 teaspoon açaí berry powder

Lots of ice

As expected, all you have to do is chuck everything into your blender, bled and enjoy! Mix your fave frozen berries, use fresh ones or whatever summer fruit you have on hand! The powders are optional but if you’re using this as a snack, I do recommend adding a protein source.

4. Wonderful watermelon 🍉

This is so refreshing! I’m all for drinking tons of water, which I definitely do, especially this time of year, but sometimes, I need something a bit tastier… this is where this simple drink comes it!

I initially made this because I wanted to find a way to use a pretty tasteless watermelon I had at home….

…. so I cut it up and added it to my blender and mixed it with this elderflower Whole Earth natural drink. We loved it so much, that I now purchase both watermelons and this soda pretty much every week to make this! This makes a really nice refreshing drink.

5. Fruit infusion

This one is totally customizable – I often use superfood powders in smoothies to increase my intake of important nutrients. Here, I used melon, frozen berries (which I ALWAYS have at home), a lot of ice, a teaspoon of chlorella powder and a tablespoon of hemp protein powder.

This makes a great snack on the go. I often make something like this when I get home; I like having something refreshing and nutrient rich while I’m sorting out stuff at home before I start cooking dinner.

Whichever smoothie you choose to try, keep in mind that the best thing about them is that you can pretty much add anything you like! Mix up the types of fruit, add ingredients you have in your pantry like oats or nut butters, reduce some of the liquid to make a smoothie bowl rather than a drink or whatever you fancy – experiment and have fun with it! They’re also a great way to use up any fruit that is past its prime…

What’s your fave smoothie combination?
