Today is pretty much a typical Saturday morning for me. I just got home from the gym and then the supermarket, starving as usual, trying desperately to fit in some time to study and learn more about food and nutrition before I head out again.
I decided to get to reading my notes immediately when I got home but couldn’t concentrate until I had something to eat, so I cooked some oats which I love on a cool rainy day. Side note: The HANGRY gene runs in my family and it’s never a good idea to leave any one of us hungry – I’m joking but also not really haha!
They turned out delish! Here’s how I made them:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup oats
1 cup almond milk
1 teaspoon agave syrup (honey or any other sweetener you have at home works just fine)
Handful of sultanas (optional)
Sliced banana
Top with almonds (any nuts will work well here, it give the dish a really nice crunch and adds some good fats and protein)
Method:
Just add oats and milk to a sauce pan on low heat and mix well. Add sultanas (if using) let simmer and watch the pot because it only takes a couple of minutes to make. Once milk is absorbed, remove from heat and add agave or honey or whatever you are using. I like adding it at the end, especially when using honey because heat kills off the antioxidants and antihistamines that are naturally present in pure honey. Add to bowl, add nuts and slices banana and enjoy.
You could also top oats with a nut butter or add different dried fruits to the mix. Whatever you fancy really! Oats are super versatile and very nutritious, not to mention they are slow releasing carbohydrates which keeps blood sugar levels stable and keeps you fuller for longer.
Hope you try this one out and enjoy it 🙂 If you do, let me know!
Until my next post, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend x X x
